Far Cry 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 29, 2012. Players assume the role of Jason Brody, a tourist who is dragged into a hostile land inhabited by dangerous tourists in search of adventure. The player has to take control over Jason's actions to survive after being stranded in the open wilderness without weapons or equipment. In order to explore the vast island, players have three types of vehicles at their disposal: ATV's, helicopters or cars that can be used in different terrains such as mountains or jungles. The game also features a variety of animals that behave more like actual animals instead of scripted entities. This has helped them gain some notoriety for their realistic behaviour. The game is set in the Rook Islands, an archipelago located in the Indian Ocean near Indonesia. The natives refer to them as "the Rook Islands" which were named after British explorer Faraday Rook who came there during World War I to investigate what he believed was an uncharted paradise. After he returned, he wrote about his discoveries and died before having the chance to return with his family. The game's protagonist Jason Brody is presumed to be Faraday Rook's grandson which explains why they bear a physical resemblance to one another with minor differences in appearance. The Rook Islands are also known as "The Boonies" because of the many illegal immigrants who live there without any government recognition. They are constantly attacked by mercenaries hired by corporations like The Company to protect the few valuable resources found on the island including rare minerals and wildlife for wildlife trafficking. As Jason attempts to escape, he drives various vehicles including dune buggies, ATV's, cars, helicopters and boats across the island's diverse terrains. Following initial tests, Ubisoft has released "Far Cry 3" for Microsoft Windows (November 4, 2012), Mac OS (December 2, 2012) and PlayStation 3 (December 4, 2012). It will be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 29, 2012. It is available as an offline and online multi-player game. Far Cry 3 will be the first entry of the "Far Cry" franchise to be developed using Dunia 2, Ubisoft's latest engine (formerly "UbiArt Engine 2"). It is also the first entry of the franchise to feature a co-op multiplayer mode. It has been announced that Far Cry 3 would feature a downloadable content called Season Pass, which adds multiple new campaign missions and map packs for both single player and multiplayer modes. The Season Pass was announced on June 17, 2012 at PAX East 2012. The game will feature a multi-player mode which can be played with up to 8 players. The players play as one of four different mercenaries who have the objective to retrieve the enemy commander in order to win the match, much like the previous games in the franchise. "Far Cry 3" allows players to create their own maps and customizations for both multiplayer and single player, which they can share through Uplay.
